It’s Libra season! Taking place from September 23 through October 22, Libra season can influence all of us, regardless of our sign.
The seventh sign of the zodiac, Libra is ruled by the planet Venus, which has dominion over love and beauty, with a penchant for admiration and luxury. Libra loves love, wants to be loved and adored, and is happiest in partnerships. Similar to Taurus (which is also ruled by the planet Venus), Libra enjoys having a beautiful home, looking good and feeling good. Libras are charming and enjoy pleasing others, and can have a lot of courage in a crisis.
Libra is an Air sign, which means it can be ruled by thoughts and the mental realm. A side effect of this can mean that Libra has trouble making decisions and knowing their true selves. As some astrological memes will tell you, there are times when they can mimic the person they’re in a relationship with as a way to try and endear that person to them even more.
The key phrase for Libra is “I Balance,” and their symbol is the scales. One lesson I learned about this from an astrologer friend of mine is that Libras can remember that they’re not the scales themselves, which are out of balance more often than not, but rather the apparatus that holds the individual scales: they are greater than the things that need to be balanced.
In tarot, the sign of Libra is represented by the Justice tarot card. It depicts Lady Justice sitting on her throne, a sword in one hand and the scales in the other. It’s a figure we now associate with the court and legal systems, and the image itself comes from the Greek goddess of justice: Astraia, Dike, and Themis. In tarot this card can indicate legal matters, but I mainly see it as a message about finding an external balance in life.
